7 Wise Business Alternatives for Paying Contractors and Suppliers (2026)

Wise7 business alternatives, compared

Quick answer: The best Wise Business alternative depends on why you’re leaving. For an all-in-one business account with published pricing, Airwallex. For marketplace-scale mass payouts, Payoneer. For contractor paperwork bundled with payments, Deel. For paying vendor bills from your accounting stack, Ramp. And for stablecoin-settled payouts that land in local currency in seconds, with the exact recipient amount quoted before you send, Avvio. This is the payer-side guide; if you’re the one getting paid, see our consumer Wise alternatives instead.

Wise Business earned its place. Transparent pricing, a real API, and mid-market FX made it the default upgrade from bank wires for thousands of companies paying people abroad. If you’re reading this, something stopped fitting: a corridor Wise doesn’t serve for business transfers, pricing that adds up at volume, or the one that brings most people here, a deactivation notice with money inside.

One thing to say plainly before the list. Every custodial platform, Wise included, can freeze funds during a compliance review. That’s not a scandal, it’s how regulated money services work. The differences worth comparing are how often it happens, how it’s communicated, and what happens to your payroll while you wait. We’ve noted the public record for each provider below, with sources and dates, because “trust us” isn’t a comparison.

When does Wise Business stop fitting?

Usually one of three ways. First, deactivations: Wise’s stated policy is not to share the reason an account is closed, reviews describe funds held for weeks or months, and businesses with non-resident owners or registered-agent addresses report being flagged disproportionately (James Baker CPA, 2025). We wrote a full guide to what happens when Wise deactivates your account. Second, corridor limits: some routes don’t support business transfers at all, and coverage is about 40 currencies (Wise restrictions, Aug 2026). Third, scale: at hundreds of payouts a run, per-transfer percentage pricing and batch limits start to matter.

To Wise’s credit, its pricing is genuinely public: sending from 0.23% depending on currency, plus a one-time $31 fee for local account details (Wise Business pricing, Aug 2026). Several alternatives below can’t say the same, and we’ve marked that honestly.

1. Airwallex, best all-in-one replacement

The closest like-for-like swap: global accounts, corporate cards, and payouts to a claimed 200+ countries and 60+ currencies, with local rails on many routes. US pricing is published at 0.5% FX above interbank for major currencies, 1% for the rest, and $15 to $25 for SWIFT (Airwallex pricing, Aug 2026). The trade-off is the same custody model as Wise: Trustpilot reviews through 2026 show a recurring pattern of funds held during compliance reviews with slow resolution. Capable platform; same class of freeze exposure.

2. Payoneer, best for marketplace-scale mass payouts

Payoneer’s enterprise mass-payout product handles payee onboarding and support at a scale most tools don’t. Two catches. Payer-side pricing isn’t published; you find out from sales. And your recipients inherit Payoneer’s fees, including up to 2% FX when they withdraw to their own bank and a $29.95 annual inactivity fee (Payoneer fee docs, Aug 2026). Its Trustpilot profile sits at 3.8 with roughly three-quarters of negative reviews citing account freezes or blocked funds (summary via Vaultleap, Aug 2026). Your contractors’ experience is part of your product; price that in.

3. Deel, best if you want the paperwork handled

Deel bundles contracts, W-8BEN collection and payments at $49 per contractor per month for contractor management (Pin’s pricing guide, 2026), which is real money at 50 contractors but buys genuine compliance tooling. The payments side carries the same complaint class as the pure payout platforms: G2 reviews log over 1,000 mentions of stuck funds or payment delays (G2, Aug 2026). Good fit when misclassification risk is the thing keeping you up at night; expensive as a pure payment rail.

4. Ramp Bill Pay, best for AP inside your accounting stack

Ramp approaches this from accounts payable: bills sync from NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero or Sage, approvals happen in Ramp, and international vendor payments go out at $20 per international wire, with foreign-currency bills requiring the paid Ramp Plus tier (Ramp support, Aug 2026). We didn’t find a notable public freeze pattern for Ramp as of August 2026, likely because it moves payments through rather than holding balances long-term. It’s US-company-only and built for invoice workflows, not payroll-style contractor runs.

5. PayPal Payouts, best when recipients insist on PayPal

Mass payouts to PayPal accounts, at 2% per payment capped at $20 internationally for the sender (fee guide, 2026). The real cost lands on the recipient: a 3% to 4% FX markup to get money out of PayPal into local currency (Tipalti, Aug 2026). Payouts also requires a business account and PayPal’s approval, and PayPal’s hold-and-freeze record around disputes is the longest-documented in the industry. Works when your recipients already live on PayPal; expensive for them everywhere else.

6. Avvio, best for local-rail payouts with the recipient amount up front

Avvio is ours, so here’s the plain version of what it does and doesn’t do.

What it does: stablecoin-settled payouts that land as local currency in 60+ currencies across 150+ countries, through domestic rails like Pix, SPEI and UPI, usually in seconds, on any day of the week. Every quote shows the rate, the fee, and the exact amount the recipient gets before you commit. Everything works from a dashboard or the API, with idempotency keys, webhooks and an event log for reconciliation, plus payout links so you never collect bank details over email. The @avvio/payments SDK includes a CLI and an MCP server for agent-driven workflows. Docs at docs.avvio.xyz.

What it doesn’t do: there are no corporate cards, no expense management, and no EOR or contract paperwork; W-8BEN collection stays your job. It’s a young platform, so there’s no long freeze record to point at, in either direction, and you should weigh that the same way you’d weigh any newer provider. For accounting-software sync and multi-user approval workflows, check the current docs for what’s live rather than taking a listicle’s word for it. Business accounts are operated by Avvio through licensed partners; they aren’t self-custody wallets.

7. Revolut Business, best for UK and EU operations

Strong multi-currency accounts, cards and local EU rails on tiered monthly plans with published pricing. Coverage and features vary a lot by region, and US businesses get a thinner product. Worth a look if your operation is UK or EU centred; check plan-level FX allowances, because the headline price isn’t the effective price once you pass the monthly exchange cap.

How should you actually choose?

Start from the failure mode that brought you here, not the feature grid. If it was a freeze, weigh the sourced records above and keep two rails, because payroll can’t wait on an appeal. If it was cost, compare full-path quotes on your three biggest corridors: your fee plus FX spread plus whatever the recipient pays to reach their own bank. If it was corridors, check the specific countries you pay before anything else; every provider’s headline number hides gaps. And if you pay on a payroll cadence, test the batch flow with ten real payouts before you move a hundred. Our cross-border payout platforms guide goes deeper on the evaluation, and the international contractor payments guide covers the W-8BEN side.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a cheaper alternative to Wise Business? Sometimes, per corridor. Wise’s published rates are genuinely competitive, so the savings usually come from structure rather than a lower percentage: removing recipient-side fees, avoiding SWIFT routes, or cutting per-contractor subscription costs. Compare what the recipient receives on your actual corridors, not the headline fee.

Why do Wise Business accounts get deactivated? Wise doesn’t say, as policy. Public reporting points to compliance reviews, with non-resident owners and registered-agent addresses flagged most often. Our deactivation guide covers the appeal process and timelines.

Which alternative doesn’t hold my funds in the same way? Every provider on this list operates through regulated custody of some kind while a payment is in flight. The structural difference is dwell time: AP-style tools like Ramp and quote-and-send payout flows like Avvio’s hold money briefly in transit, while wallet-style platforms hold your working balance continuously, which is what a freeze locks up.

Does Avvio have an API like Wise’s? Yes. Quotes, payouts, payout links, webhooks and an event log, with idempotency keys throughout, plus a sandbox. Whether it fits your integration is checkable in an afternoon at docs.avvio.xyz.

Can I keep Wise and add a second rail? Yes, and for payroll-critical payouts you probably should run two providers regardless of which you pick. Route by corridor strength and keep the second rail warm with occasional volume, so it’s ready the week you need it.

The payer’s version of the takeaway

Wise Business is a good product with a documented failure mode. The fix isn’t finding a provider with zero risk, it’s picking rails whose costs you can see, whose freeze record you’ve read, and having a second one ready before payroll week needs it.

Start with the Avvio for Business dashboard or the API docs. If you advise businesses that pay people abroad, our partner program pays a recurring share for every one you bring.

Avvio is a financial technology company, not a bank. Payout services are provided by licensed partners, availability varies by jurisdiction, and this article is general information, not financial advice. Competitor pricing was checked in August 2026 and changes; verify against each provider’s own pages.

Stop asking your bank for permission.
